Bolivia
Landlocked Bolivia has seen its share of internal conflict, including almost 200 coups and countercoups. It's one of the poorest and least-developed countries in South America. Almost half of the population lives below the poverty line, even more in rural or indigenous communities.
Although there is water in the hills, it often takes hours to collect and gathers pollutants as it moves downhill.
