Speedo 30th

Read Mission Statement

UPDATE: THURSDAY NOVEMBER 14

My best mate Chase Edge has pledged to personally donate the last $5K to push us to goal if (and only if) we can get to $25,000 raised by the end of this Saturday, November 16.

We're close! Please give!

ORIGINAL MISSION STATEMENT:

In one month: I’m 30. CRAP.

Obviously people handle hitting the big 3-0 with varying degrees of distress, horror and fear. I’m trying to balance out those emotions by doing something a bit more meaningful: working with you guys to bring clean drinking water to an entire village in India.

As I’ve done for the last few years, I’m giving up this birthday (my big one) for clean water. Three years ago we built a well (that’s still pumping) in the Central African Republic. Two years ago we helped fund a drilling rig that I was able to see in Ethiopia a few months ago. Last year we did our best yet and raised $17,000 to build a tap stand for an entire village in Rwanda.

But this year is a big birthday - so I’m going bigger, and I need your help.

For our September Campaign for India we’re supporting Gram Vikas an amazing, local organization led by a guy I tremendously respect, Joe Madiath. I met Joe earlier this year and was blown away by his humility, generosity, and the sophistication of the work he does in the field.

So for my 30th, I’m trying to do something I don’t think I’m capable of, so I’m going to do something crazy if we get there . If, for my 30th, we raise $30,000 to bring clean water to 666 people in India -- I’ll run the Philadelphia half marathon in a speedo. In November. Possibly in the snow. Definitely in a high degree of discomfort.

It’s a huge goal and I only think there’s a chance we’ll get there because I think you guys are incredibly generous and I know a handful of you want to see me in a speedo. If we fall short I think we’ll at least raise $20,000 -- enough to bring an entire village clean water!

So what should you give?

$450 is enough to bring an entire family clean water. For this, a family will get a tap in their kitchen, their toilet and their shower. Imagine your house with none of these things, and then one day with the help of a donor you had a clean, safe place to use the bathroom.

$45 will allow Joe to bring one person clean water in Orissa.

Or just give $30 for my 30th!

Every time I get a donation I get an email with your name and comment, and please know when I see your name pop up, I’ll think of you and smile.

Cheers,
Paull
