We are thrilled and proud to update you on our partners’ sustainability efforts for this project! The Rulindo District Water Board has been working with our partner, Water for People, to maintain the water projects your generous support helped make possible. They survey community members to make sure they're satisfied with the water flow and quality. If repairs are needed, the message can reach regional representatives quickly, and they'll work to make sure the water project is fixed quickly. We're eager to watch as this new system helps keep water flowing in this community for years to come!
This project was constructed at a health clinic. Safe health practices require safe water within reach. When nurses and doctors spend time walking for water or boiling that water to guarantee it’s safe, they lose precious minutes helping their patients.
The surrounding community in the Rulindo district will also have access to this water project, which means the water they bring home each day is safe enough to drink and won’t make them sick.See how we tied your Dollars to Projects
We publish a project when we've approved a final report from our partners and made sure your project is working for the best of the community.
Rwanda is the beautiful land of a thousand hills. More than 11 million people call it home, and over 80% of them depend entirely on agriculture. In a country where 45% of the population lives below the poverty line, a third of rural Rwandans don't have access to clean drinking water. Thanks to your help, we're working to change that!
These are the GPS coordinates of your project, plotted in Google Maps. A GPS (Global Positioning System) coordinate is the exact latitude and longitude of any given point on the Earth’s surface. charity: water uses GPS coordinates to record the location of each water project we fund. Please note: there are many of different formats for GPS. We use degree decimal format.
This is the population of the community that has access to your water project.
The water technologies we fund depend on the region's water availability, culture and economic conditions. Our partners survey each site and meet with the communities to determine the best solution. This community received a tap stand connected to a large scale system providing water to many tap stands.
Even the best solutions can experience problems. Just as your own plumbing requires special attention from time to time, previously-built water projects occasionally need to be repaired or replaced. When this happens, our local partners try to rehabilitate broken solutions whenever possible. Repairing a previously-built water project saves time and money. We also invest in new maintenance models so the communities can prevent future breakdowns. The end result is a restored water point that brings clean water back to the community.

This is the cost of the water project you funded. Costs vary by country and by project type, and depend on a wide range of variables such as the local cost of fuel and cement at the time your project was built. This project’s cost includes any hygiene training or community maintenance models for the project’s sustainability.
charity: water works with partners in the field to build and implement water projects. Our partners have years of experience. They know the land, the people, the culture and the most appropriate water technology for each area of work. They report this data from the field to help us provide proof of your completed project(s).
