Many of us have no idea what it's like to be thirsty. We have plenty of water to drink -- even the water in our toilets is clean!

But many people around the world don’t have that luxury. Every day, 5,000 kids die from water-related illnesses before they reach their fifth birthday. But it doesn’t have to be that way. There are simple solutions like drilled wells, spring protections and BioSand filters that help provide clean water to communities around the world.

We started this fundraising campaign to help charity: water help provide 100 villages in Orissa, India clean sanitation systems including a water towers, showers, toilets, water taps in each home, and we need your help.

Currently in Orissa there is a lack of sanitation leading to contaminated water, illness and disease. Women often bear the burden of collecting water. This prevents them from earning an income and sometimes keeps young girls out of school.

One of the reasons this effect Orissa so much is because of the caste system. The caste system is the world's longest-surviving social hierarchy. A person's caste is determined from birth and cannot be changed. The lowest members of society known as Dalits, or "untouchables," are often denied many basic rights including access to clean water.

Specifically if we raise $20,000 by December 31, 2013 we will raise enough money to help 1 village. To put the cherry on top, if we reach our goal 2U has committed to matching the $20,000 we will raise so we can help 2 villages!

Please donate to our campaign -- anything you can give is a huge help. For example a donation of $45 can give one person in India clean water!

100% of the money will be used to build these clean water projects, and when they're complete, charity: water will send us photos and GPS coordinates so we can see the exact community we helped.
