The average U.S. citizen spends around 1% of income on alcohol each year. A new report estimates that the average American worker spends nearly $14.40 a week on coffee, which does not include the cost of drinking coffee at home.

Even if it has not been a significant problem in your life, those who regularly consume alcohol or caffeine often find it has become more of a coping mechanism than they thought.

For this lent, we are fasting alcohol for 40 days.

Why fast? Fasting is about disruption. Here’s a good question to ask: “What are the things (even good things) in my life that take up too much of my time, energy, and money?” or “What are the things that I use as a coping mechanism?”

Would you be willing to fast something you drink, like alcohol or caffeine, and take the money you usually spend on beverages and give it towards Charity Water?

It may be helpful to calculate what you spend over 40 days and donate it.

Many of us have no idea what it's like to be thirsty.

But many people around the world don’t have that luxury. Every day, about 1,400 children die from diseases caused by unsafe water and poor sanitation. But it doesn’t have to be that way. There are simple solutions like drilled wells, spring protections and BioSand filters that help provide clean water to communities around the world.

We want to help charity: water build these types of projects around the world, and we are looking for anyone who can help!
