People often jest that once you get past the age of 30, birthday's become something you dread more than celebrate. I however, love birthday's! It is a time to reflect on how wonderful and rich life is and often we get to do it surrounded by people we love. This past summer, I attended Inbound 2013 where the Scott Harrison gave a presentation about his organization charity: water and told us how he gave up his 31st birthday to raise money for clean water projects.

I knew that clean water projects could drastically improve health and quality of life for an individual or family. What I didn't fully realize was how much this work has changed the culture and economy of entire communities including the time and space for girls to attend school once they no longer need to walk for miles each day to get water.

So for my birthday this year, I am asking for donations instead of gifts. Something I love about charity:water is that EVERY penny of the money raised will directly fund clean water projects in developing countries. Even better, charity: water will show us exactly which projects we funded once they've been fully completed (which takes about 18 months). That means we'll know the locations and names of the communities we helped.
