This year, I'd like your help in celebrating my birthday a little differently. Right now, life is going really well--I honestly can't think of anything I really need or even want for my birthday. Instead, I'm asking for clean water.
I'm not Sarah McLachlan: I won't try to guilt-trip you into donating by showing you sad pictures or telling you sad stories. Please consider donating a small amount if you meet the following criteria:
(1) you think giving people access to clean water is a good thing,
(2) you consider me a friend, a family member, an acquaintance, or you know me as "oh, yeah, that guy",
(3) you have a few bucks to spare.
I tried to be cute and set the suggested donation amount to $2.90, but it rounded up to $3, so there you have it. 100 people. $3 each. (Or 50 people at $6 each. Or some mixture thereof.)
Can we get there? Should I have spent more time planning this? Am I putting a dollar value on my social relationships and setting myself up for crushing disappointment by keeping the bar so low? Only time will tell...
