On May 24, I'm turning 30.
This year, I am donating my birthday to charity: water.
I have never really been thirsty. I've never had to leave my apartment and walk five miles to fetch water. I simply walk to my kitchen and can get clean water. Yet there are 800 million people on the planet who don't have clean water.
Charity: water is our best hope. I've donated to them in the past, and it's always a good feeling. When I worked for Bigcommerce, a co-worker of mine who was educating us on charity:water's mission, filled a baby bottle full of water and dirt. It didn't even look drinkable. But that's the type of water that these families are faced with. If at least 34 people donate 30.00 each, that will give at least 12 families clean drinking water.
I invite you to imagine that you and your family were in their shoes, carrying 80 pounds of water in yellow fuel cans for miles, digging in sand for water, or lining up at a well and waiting eight hours for a turn.
Join me in doing something. Make a decision to help.
I'm asking for $3, $30 or $300 from everyone I know - and every dollar raised goes directly to charity:water to fund clean water projects in developing nations.
Even better, we'll be able to see the communities we've helped once the projects we've funded have been fully completed! My goal is to donate over $600 by my birthday, May 24.
Please join me to make this birthday count.
Thanks!
Happy birthday Laura. I think it's pretty cool that you're doing this.
