Why Alex Rosado is fundraising for clean water

Every day, 5,000 kids under the age of 5 die from water-related illnesses. I'm gonna help change that!

Many of us have no idea what it's like to be thirsty. We have plenty of water to drink -- even the water in our toilets is clean!

But many people around the world don’t have that luxury. Every day, 5,000 kids die from water-related illnesses before they reach their fifth birthday. But it doesn’t have to be that way. There are simple solutions like drilled wells, spring protections and BioSand Filters that help provide clean water to communities around the world.
This campaign hits very close to home for me. A lot of people don't know that a few years ago I almost died during my tour in Korea. I had drank a small amount of contaminated drinking water. A nasty bacteria tore through my insides like no other. I spent 12 days in an Intensive Care Unit (and the better part of these past 3 years recovering), Received multiple blood transfusions, surgery, and tens of thousands of dollars later I am almost 100% again. Please don't let these kids suffer. As I embark on my next adventure that will bring me to a yet another continent on this great earth, I pledge to donate and do everything possible to make a difference. Every 20 seconds a child dies from a water related disease. Please help.

Quote from my wife:
We had to have a contingency plan because he was in the ICU at the end of my pregnancy and he had been there for each of our children's births. He was determined not to miss the baby's birth. We had this giant breech baby and they were planning on a C-section. They actually were trying to determine if the OR would be big enough for his ICU bed with his tubes and machines and stuff so he could be there for the birth. Its one of those miraculous things where the baby who wasn't supposed to flip did and the c-section could be cancelled, and he was released from ICU in time to be there for the birth (good thing because of complications and short staffed, the doctor needed him as a medic to help). He's had to fight so hard to get this far. Hardest thing was the doctor pulling me aside and them saying that his body rejected the much needed blood transfusions and they couldn't get their hands on what they needed in Korea, and that they were doing all they can. But he was lucky. Had he been a child. Had he not had access to medical treatment, he would have perished, and he'd have left behind five kids without a father. Definitely a fighter. Totally my hero.

I started this fundraising campaign to help charity: water build these types of projects around the world, and I'm looking for anyone who can help me.

Please donate to my campaign -- anything you can give is a huge help.

100% of the money will be used to build clean water projects, and when they’re complete, charity: water will send us photos and GPS coordinates so we can see the exact community we helped.
