Why Aiko Ishikawa is fundraising for clean water

Can you imagine having to walk 10km to get water. 50km in drought. And even then, the quality of water may give them risk to deadly diseases?

I came across this video when I was feeling smug after running 3km in less than 30minutes on my 10th day of part of a project I took on as part of my leadership development program: "Run 10km in one go in 6weeks". I thought I was being pretty awesome given I hate running, and I have a weak knee owing to a ski accident in my 20s, and I couldn't even imagine running for longer than 5minutes when I took it on.

This project was my access to have my dream come true - to run around with my grandchildren in my 80s, and 10km seemed challenging but doable and sustainable.

Now, 10km has a completely new meaning.

Many of us have no idea what it's like to be thirsty.

To give you some context:

World record for 10km run
26min 18sec for men and 29min 18 sec for women.

25 yr old men typically takes 51min 47sec & women 1hr 16 sec.

40 yr old men typically takes 54min 53seconds & women 1hr 1min 49sec.

Right now I am half way through my 6weeks and my best so far has been 5.53km in 47min. Today, my body was just not performing and my personal trainer sent me home. And after each session, I guzzle water.

We have plenty of water to drink -- even the water in our toilets is clean! And I catch myself flushing water when I see anything remotely dirty in the toilet.

But many people around the world don’t have that luxury. Every day, about 1,400 children die from diseases caused by unsafe water and poor sanitation.

** But it doesn’t have to be that way. **

There are simple solutions like drilled wells, spring protections and BioSand filters that help provide clean water to communities around the world.

I started this fundraising campaign to help charity: water build these types of projects around the world, and I'm looking for anyone who can help me.

Please donate to this campaign -- anything you can give is a huge help.

100% of the money will be used to build clean water projects, and when they’re complete, charity: water will send us photos and GPS coordinates so we can see the exact community we helped.
