The students of Alta Vista have been working on this well project since last year when, as a community, we began to collect "change for change" in support a water project in a developing country. They collected change on a weekly basis from doing tasks around the house, keeping reading logs and even hosting lemonade stands. In January of last year and December of this year, the school participated in a "No Water Day" to simulate what it is like for those who do not have access to clean drinking water from a faucet, and who often have to walk miles to fill containers from a dirty source. In the simulation, students had to carry a heavy bucket down the hall, just to fill a small cup with water. This simulation had a powerful effect on the students, so much so that one student went home and was inspired through Charity Water to help others receive clean water. She presented this video to the student body, who unanimously agreed that they wanted to do something to help. This project represents the results of their growing awareness and work to change the situation. Young people are so primed with compassion and caring to do good in the world for others. Together let's create a bridge, made of water, to another country and help a community with access to safe, clean drinking water. Thank you!!!
