Water changes everything.

As a teacher, over the years I've had the opportunity to learn with my students about the reality facing those without access to clean water, including widespread infection, disease and hours lost every day walking for water instead of getting an education. Every day, 1,400 kids die from water-related illnesses before they reach their fifth birthday.

I'm passionate about helping solve the water crisis and want to fund an entire water project for my 30th birthday. Every month since my 29th birthday I've saved US$270 towards this project, and will reach US$3250 by my 30th birthday. But I'm now fundraising with a pretty big target of US$6,750.

As well as giving up my birthday, I have initiated a challenge: 30 days on only 30L of water per day! Starting May 15th 2015.

I'm going to have to make some pretty big changes to cut my daily usage from approx. 180L per day (and no I'm not going to stop showering and let my plants die!). You can follow my journey on http://sites.google.com/site/water30appley/

100% of the money raised will be used to build clean water projects, and when they’re complete, charity: water will send us photos and GPS coordinates so we can see the exact community we helped.
