A couple of weeks ago I heard the story of a woman from Ethiopia. This woman had walked for a total of eight hours carrying a 50 pound clay pot in order to get water for her family. When she was nearing her home, she slipped and fell, dropping the clay pot, breaking it in pieces and losing all of the water. She then took a rope and hung herself from a tree.

It turns out this woman was a 13 year old girl. Her friends believe that she committed suicide because of the shame of having to face her family after not only losing all of the water but breaking the clay pot, a valuable asset for the family.

I won’t forget her story.

This year for my birthday I have decided to give everything I get to make sure that someone’s birthplace does not limit them of clean water.
