In January, I interned with charity: water in New York City. The organization builds sustainable wells and filtration systems in rural communities across Sub Saharan Africa and Southeast Asia.

I was inspired by charity: water's work because it changes communities by improving health, enabling children to stay in school and empowering women to seek employment. Their model promises 100% of donations go directly to the field to build wells and they use technology so that donors can see the wells they fund on Google maps (including realtime monitoring of the well's operation).

This year Pembroke has created a water initiative to raise awareness for this global crisis. I am excited to rally the Pembroke Hill community to fund a well to bring clean water to a rural community.

Please join us to “Walk for Water” at the Pembroke Hill Upper School track on April 7th 2018 from 9:30 am to 11:00 am. Rural families in Africa walk an average of 4 miles to access water. We'll walk that (15 laps around the track) - and along the way learn about the global water crisis and how we can help.

Please consider donating $50 per family - or $200 to be an event sponsor. All are welcome to the event; no donation is required to participate. 100% of the money will be used to build clean water projects, and when they’re complete, charity: water will send us photos and GPS coordinates so we can see the exact community we helped.
