Why Craig Beech is fundraising for clean water

This is the 15th time I will be taking on the Absa Cape Epic. It is bound to be the driest and dustiest (hopefully with a little drizzle/ rain as reprieve from the drought). In the last year or so, we have had a little taste …. What we are experiencing in the Western Cape is humbling and offers much food for thought, and a consideration for how many folk live daily - in far more challenging environments.

Despite the challenges some of us are faced with, with the current water shortage and drought in and around Cape Town, many of us have no idea what it's like to be thirsty. We have become accustomed to having access to plenty of water to drink -- even the water in our toilets is clean! And how I have learnt how wasteful that is?

Many people around the world don’t have the luxury of clean water daily, never mind in limited quantities. Every day, about 1,400 children die from diseases caused by unsafe water and poor sanitation. But it doesn’t have to be that way. There are simple solutions like drilled wells, spring protections and BioSand filters that help provide clean water to communities around the world.

This is the second time I have run this fundraising campaign to help charity: water (who I avidly follow) build these types of projects around the world, and I'm looking for anyone who can help me. I would like to see if we can surpass the previous target of $1K US. I have set a more ambitious target, but let that too not be a ceiling.

Please donate to my campaign -- anything you can give is a huge help.

100% of the money will be used to build clean water projects, and when they’re complete, charity: water will send us photos and GPS coordinates (another reason charity:water are mighty fine – they map stuff) so we can see the exact community we helped.

Thanks for doing so and offering to this fine charity.
