Water is the most important nutrient of the human body, and yet it is often taken for granted in our daily lives and fitness journeys. Many of us have no idea what it's like to be thirsty. We have plenty of water to drink -- even the water in our toilets is clean!
We take for granted the availability of clean water, and yet, 663 million people (1 in 10) lack access to safe water. One child under the age of 5 dies nearly every 20 seconds from a water-related illness... that's 5,000 children everyday. But it doesn’t have to be that way. There are simple solutions like drilled wells, spring protections and BioSand filters that help provide clean water to communities around the world.
IT Sports and Social initiated the IT Fitness Challenge with the goal of providing employees with the tools and resources needed to reach their goals and practice healthy lifestyles. As global citizens and in keeping with our belief in fitness and health we started this campaign to help charity: water build these types of projects around the world for communities in need.
100% of the money will be used to build clean water projects, and when they’re complete, charity: water will send us photos and GPS coordinates so we can see the exact community we helped.
