I need your help to empower 20 people with access to clean water for my 20th birthday.

Most of you reading this have been saturated in the comfort of Western culture. We have seen the pictures, heard the sales pitch, but we still don't understand the plight of so many of our fellow human beings.

But imagine this for a second. Every day, you are forced to drink dirty water, wash your hands with dirty water, and bathe in dirty water. There's no option for a $3 bottle of vitamin infused water with a hint of fruit. You can't even turn on a faucet to get yourself a drink.

Here's my guess. You can't imagine it. Neither can I, because we don't understand. No documentary, no instagram picture, no essay can make us understand the full weight of living in a world without the basic things that we've come to accept as our right.

But many people around the world don’t have that luxury. Every day, about 1,400 children die from diseases caused by unsafe water and poor sanitation. But it doesn’t have to be that way. There are simple solutions like drilled wells, spring protections and BioSand filters that help provide clean water to communities around the world.

This past year has shown me just how little I know about the world and has revealed the fact that I can do something about it - not as a humanitarian, or a globally conscious hipster, but as a HUMAN BEING.

For my 20th birthday I'm asking that you help me raise enough money to get 20 people clean water. Donate $2, $20, $200 or anything you can pitch in. Just remember, water shouldn't be a luxury.

100% of the money will be used to build clean water projects, and when they’re complete, charity: water will send us photos and GPS coordinates so we can see the exact community we helped.
