In light of my 19th birthday coming up, I have been reflecting on how fortunate I am to have access to health care, nutritious food, and clean water. Something I am passionate about is bringing health to people on a global level. Unfortunately, one out of ten people in the world do not have access to clean water. This is results in many preventable water born illnesses, especially in young children and pregnant mothers. Every day about 1,400 children die from diseases caused by unsafe water and poor sanitation.
In hopes to end these preventable tragedies, I have decided to pledge this birthday to a fund with an organization called charity: water. Charity: water is an amazing non-profit devoted to bringing clean water to people in 25 countries where clean water is unaccessible by building permanent pipelines. The most special aspect about this organization to me is that it is 100 PERCENT TRANSPARENT— 100% of your donation will go directly to bringing access to clean water. It does this by only using special donations meant for the purpose of running the organization so that all the money that you donate can go directly to the mission; instead of some of it going towards paying for the organization expenses.
The organization has calculated that 36$ will bring access to clean water to one person. I am asking for 19$ because it is my 19th birthday but please donate whatever you can give— every dollar counts towards the 36$ to giving one more person clean water.
At the end of my campaign, charity: water will send us photos and the GPS coordinates of where our money went so that we can see the exact community we helped.
To add a little extra goal to my campaign, I pledge to take a “polar plunge” into Lake Champlain, the the lake by my university campus (once it defrosts) if my campaign can reach its goal of 350$ by my birthday, March 8th. The picture above is one of the lake that I took a few weeks ago. And yes, a video of my plunge would be uploaded to Facebook.

Here it is!! The promised video of me jumping into Lake Champlain for well exceeding my campaign goal and raising $853! Thank you so so much again to all you lovely people. Because of you 28 people will now have clean drinking water for the rest of their lives! Woohoo!The lake water was a brisk 40 degrees so I promise it was indeed "polar plunge" status.
