Charity: Water, in my opinion, is one of the most important, influential, selfless and life changing charites that exsist today. 100% of donations go to helping supply clean water to over 6 million people, with their dream goal being to rid the world of this very serious problem. They do this by digging fresh wells and educating the local community on how to maintain the wells they build. They also install sensors on every well the install and keep track of their functionality.
I found out about Charity: Water in December of last year. Late one night after a particularly bad day, I was lying in bed sulking, feeling sorry for myself. As I was aimlessly surfing the internet to take my mind off things I happend to come accross the founder and company's back story. It instantly put my issues into perspective and truly spoke to me. Many charites tend to exsist as much if not more to benefit themselves then who they are supposed to be helping. It was quite refreshing to learn about this charites story for me. So much so that I decided to start donating monthly. Since it was December I had the idea to actually have a real new years resolution for once in my life. I set a reminder in my phone and on January 1st I made my first donation and have managed to do it every month since. Unfortunately however this month was the first time that I could not afford to do so and I had to put a hold on my monthly donation.
As it's said there is no such thing as a selfless act. So to be completely honest, I had wanted this to be my own personal happiness that I kept to my self along with knowing I would truly be making a difference in someone's life. Something I did without the need or urge for others approval. I wanted my gained happiness to come from the deed itself, the knowledge that I've helped others and not be "watered" down by others thoughts. So I planned on telling no one, which I did until now.
I truly hated having to temporarily stop my donations, so I decided to get over myself and to start my on fundraising campaign to at least try and raise what I would have donated the rest of this year. Though it's not much, with a company that takes 100% of it's donations and uses it towards it's cause, it feels like more. I do hope to to start donating again before this year is up but either way I felt the need to share this with everyone. This I an amazing charity that helps so many people all around the world so if anything please just take the time to go to their website at charitywater.org. If you do, take time to read about all they do and their back story. I know some of you will feel the same as me and at least spread the word of this amazing organization. If you do decide to donate however, they will send you updates periodically on exactly where your money went and what it was used for by pinpointing the location on a map accompanied with a description of what was done there. The fact that they go this far out of their way to track everyone's money and keep you updated shows how passionate and reliable Charity: Water is. If more organizations operated this way, the world would be a much better place.
