Why Evan Coghlan is fundraising for clean water

As many of you know I've been involved in Nightclubs, Bars & Music Festivals for the last 15 years. I've bartended, managed, promoted or owned some amazing parties & venues and many of you have helped in selling tickets to these events, working with me to put them on or supported simply by attending them & partying with me...

Last year I made the choice to leave nightlife. As part of that choice, I wanted to get my fitness back, so I arranged to Thru-hike the Pacific Crest Trail from Mexico to Canada through the Sierra's & Cascade mountain ranges in California, Oregon & Washington. 4,270km of hiking with 420,880ft in elevation change over the trek (For my Australian friends, to give you an idea this is the equivalent of traveling from Perth to Sydney by foot if you placed 7 x Mt Everest's along the journey). It's been the journey of a lifetime! I've lost about 15kg, I'm in the best shape of my life. I've seen bears, mountain lions, rattlesnakes all while hiking, camping and living amongst some of the most spectacular scenery in the world. My cup is full!

Part way through my hike, a good friend recommended the audiobook "Thirst: A Story of Redemption" by Scott Harrison a New York nightclub promoter who traded in his life of "models & bottles" to start "charity: water" a non-profit that has raised over $200 million to fund the development of over 25,000 water projects affecting the lives of 8.2 million people in 24 different countries. Listening to his story as I was hiking through the mountains, filtering my own water 3-4 times per day, I was moved to do something.

In the next few weeks I'll complete my journey by carrying a 20L yellow jerry can (the iconic logo of charity: water a symbol of the water crisis) up to the summit of Mt Whitney in an attempt to raise money & awareness for this worthwhile cause - "bringing clean, safe drinking water to every single person on the planet."

Right now, there are 663,000,000 people that don't have access to clean drinking water. That's 1 in 10 of us! Every day over 1,400 children die because they don't have clean water. Water changes everything!

I'd like to invite you to donate to my "Walk for Water". 100% of the money will be used to build clean water projects, and when they’re complete, charity: water will send us photos and GPS coordinates so we can see the exact community we helped.

Whether you're still partying or involved in nightlife, working in a completely different field, raising a family, or on a life-changing trip of your own, thanks for sharing the journey with me and I hope you're as happy as I am right now hiking through the High Sierra's in California.

Lots of Love,
Evan
