This year our Girl Scout Brownies have been learning about the Wonders of Water. The girls have learned about loving water, saving water and sharing water.

Our group of 9 Brownies have decided to raise $200 to help ten people to have access to clean drinking water. We will have donation jars throughout the community for the remainder of the month of March. So far Inklings Bookstore, the Heginbotham Library, Holyoke High School, The Oak Tree and RJ's Simple Spending have agreed to host collection jars - we hope everyone in town will help by donating their spare change to make change in the lives of those without clean drinking water access.

Some facts about water that the girls have learned this year:

Just 3% of the water on earth is fresh water.

65% of your body is water.

The average American uses 100 gallons of water per day.

Almost a billion people on the earth do not have access to clean drinking water.

Many girls spend 4 to 5 hours a day carrying water to their homes. Since they have to work so hard to get water, they cannot attend school.

Update 3/14 - collected the change in most of the jars so far today, $5.63 - a good start, considering that the local paper that published a letter to the editor about our project will be delivered to subscribers tomorrow! Hopefully more people will hear about our project in the paper and make donations!

Update 3/21 - collected $34.63 today! One more week to go, and hopefully sending flyers home with the elementary school students will help us to hit our goal. Thanks you to everyone who has helped out so far!
