Can I tell you a story?

I once had to help explain to a seven year old in Haiti how to give something like eight different medications to herself and her three younger siblings. Her eyes were really wide as the interpreter wrote out the instructions for each prescription in Creole and I explained to her in French she probably didn't really understand how to tell which meds were for which person and put them into separate bags. We did the whole thing twice. I remember the moment she got it, her wide-eyed look of fear and confusion suddenly turning into one of determination. She probably didn't understand all of it. I don't even know if she could read. We wrote the instructions hoping that she could find an older child in her village to read them to her. But she didn't care. I saw her sit up straight and softly nod her head. She would do the best she could.

In that moment, I realized I have so much more than I could ever ask for.

As my 26th birthday nears, I've been thinking a lot about that day.

I've been jumping on planes and trains and in cars lately. I've seen a lot of the world. I've had some amazing adventures. Most recently though, my heart has been seeking out places with people who have far less than I do. There are people all over this planet who have next to nothing. They lack even the most basic of life's necessities–food, shelter, water.
I want to do something about that.

I'd love to tell you more of the stories + memories of places I've been and people I've seen. If you ever want to hear and share in those things, please call me or find me! As some of you celebrate my existence this June though, I'm asking you to join me in doing something about the aches in our world.

I don't need things.
Some people need water though.
