Many of us have no idea what it's like to be thirsty. In light of the current water crisis in Cape Town so many of us have come to realise just how valuable water really is! Thankfully we have clean water - even the water in our toilets is drinkable! But many people don’t have that luxury.

I discovered charity: water a few months ago and recently learnt that you can 'pledge your birthday' (which sounded like a fun thing to be part of) and in doing so, help change the lives of people. It’s so easy! Instead of giving a person gifts for their birthday you would donate and in doing so give the greatest gift of all. Safe, clean drinking water.

So I thought... let me try this 'pledge' see how it goes and in doing so help charity: water build more amazing water projects (drilled wells, spring protections and BioSand filters) around the world. My rough goal is to reach $500 (around R6000 ZAR) which will help 14 people get access to clean water.

To do this they encourage people to donate the amount equivalent to your age. So... because I'll be turning 29 on the 17th of March, you would gift R29 ($3-4). If just over 200 friends donate, together we'll reach $500 and be part of something greater than a birthday present. Imagine helping 14 people get access to clean water?

100% of the money will be used to build clean water projects, and when they’re complete, charity: water will send us photos and GPS coordinates so we can see the exact community and people we helped.
