Why Kate Gray is fundraising for clean water

Our class read the Storyworks article “Two Miles for a Drink of Water” and learned about how young people in Africa are missing school due to a lack of clean, accessible drinking water.

Inspired by Habit 5, Seek First to Understand, Then to be Understood, the student leaders of room 8 decided they’d like to make a positive impact and help.

Goal: Clay students will donate $ 300 to charity: water. (www.charitywater.org)

Plan: Students will drink only tap water for 2 weeks. (March 24 - April 6) During this time they will save the money that would otherwise have been spent on sports drinks, juice, soda, and bottled water.

We hope you will participate in this activity in big and small ways. Clean drinking water is a luxury that we are fortunate to enjoy! As the Japanese poet Ryunosuke Satoro wrote, “Individually, we are one drop. Together we are an ocean.” Let’s see how much we can donate to a very worthy cause!
