On February 14th, I turned 30 years old. And I was thinking to myself, what have I accomplished on this earth so far, how have I made a conscious effort to help others? How can I be more selfless? And I was inspired by a close friend of mine who gave up her favourite food for an entire year to be closer to Christ. I decided to take up a similar discipline and spiritual resolution myself this year, and that is to drink only water for all of 2018. This means, no tea, coffee, juice, alcohol, milk or pop. The reason for this being is to get people talking and thinking and engaging in the idea that we as Canadians are so incredibly fortunate to have access to clean water for drinking and bathing 24/7, whereas over 663 million people are without this vital necessity. So I thought to myself, perhaps drinking only water for an entire year is my way of showing gratitude to God for his divine providence. But I also wanted to push myself further, to help those who can't help themselves. I have teamed up with charity: water this year by pledging my 30th birthday. My goal is to raise $1050 USD to help provide access to clean water for 30 people for the rest of their lives in a developing country. But I need your help friends. Please consider the kindness you would extend to me as a friend, and consider extending it a little further this year toward people who are in need more than we are. God is the ultimate provider and he has gifted us tenfold with the capacity to pay it forward. Asking for money from friends can be uncomfortable and vulnerable and on occasion completely unacceptable. It's sad that this is the case. But I would also like to emphasize that every little bit helps. I myself have started the campaign off with my own donation of $100. Money I recognized I undoubtedly will be saving this year by not consuming any other drinks except water.
