goal
Hi. I'm turning 21 on June 15th :) !!! Help make my heart (and yours) happy by donating to my campaign dedicated to the 785 million people in the world without clean water.
All the proceeds from this campaign will go directly to funding a clean water project (which may be a well, water purification system, rainwater catchments, bio-sand filter, etc.) If I reach my goal, we'll be responsible for sharing clean water with 33 people and when its completed Charity:Water will share with us the details of the project! At the bottom are links to my previous campaigns for clean water, where water projects were built in Nanune, Mozambique & Mgnay Awlie, Ethiopia
With unclean water sources often miles from villages, many of the able-bodied members of a community are forced to spend hours each day simply finding and transporting water. The typical container used for water collection in Africa weighs over 40 pounds when it's completely full. When clean water isn't immediately accessible to communities, its often women and girls who are stuck carrying this burden. In Africa alone, women and girls spend an average of 40 billion hours a year transporting clean water.
*Health.*
Diseases from dirty water kill more people every year than all forms of violence, including war. 43% of those deaths are children under five years old. Access to clean water and basic sanitation can save around 16,000 lives every week.
*Time.*
In Africa alone, women spend 40 billion hours a year walking for water. Access to clean water gives communities more time to grow food, earn an income, and go to school -- all of which fight poverty.
*Education.*
Clean water helps keep kids in school, especially girls.
Less time collecting water means more time in class. Clean water and proper toilets at school means teenage girls don’t have to stay home for a week out of every month.
*Women.*
Women are responsible for 72% of the water collected in Sub-Saharan Africa. When a community gets water, women and girls get their lives back. They start businesses, improve their homes, and take charge of their own futures.
