I am doing this campaign because I have a school project for water stewardship. I chose to do a fundraiser for clean water because I wanted to help people in need. I got this idea because my sister did a fundraiser for charity: water and raised a lot of money. This inspired me to do a fundraiser as well. 100% of the donations go to the water projects in other countries, which, is part of the reason I chose charity: water.

About 663,000,000 people live without clean water (nearly 1 in in 10 people all over the world). Illnesses from dirty water cause more fatalities than any violence; even war. 43% of these deaths are kids under the age of 5.

Access to clean water and sanitation services can save approximately 16,000 lives per week. 40,000,000,000 hours per year are spent by women collecting water; and that is just in Africa. This a problem because the women have less time work and provide for their families, and the water is rarely even clean. With clean water, whole communities have a greater amount of time for agriculture, work, and to get an education. These all help to combat poverty.

31% of schools all around the world don’t have clean water or good enough sanitation in their facilities. That is a big problem because there are many deadly waterborne diseases, and poor sanitation adds to the problem.

When there is clean water, there is a big positive impact: a 15% increase in girls enrolling in school. Clean water can help women take their lives back by going to school, learning, getting jobs, running their own businesses, providing for their family, and empowering other women to do the same. But when there is no clean water, 443,000,000 school days are missed because of water-connected diseases that can be prevented. When so many school days are missed, children don’t have a lot of time to learn which makes it harder for them to have an education and a successful future as adults.
