I turn 25 on September 22nd. If I’m being honest, I look forward to an outpouring of love and support that I receive from my family and friends each year on my birthday. It's overwhelming. Last year, I decided to use that 24 hours of attention to try and make a difference--and while relatively small--what a difference we made. With the help of charity: water, we raised over $1,000 to provide access to clean water for people in a developing country.

There are so many noble causes worthy of your time, attention and generosity, but here are a few reasons that I chose charity: water...

The Model: Charity: water’s operating costs are covered by private donors. 100% of your donation goes directly towards funding water projects.

The Children: 4,100 children die each day from diseases carried in contaminated water.

The Need: There are still over 660 million people in the world without access to clean water. That’s two times the population of the United States. That number was 1 BILLION before charity: water started in 2006. You will make a difference.

The Impact: A $1 investment in clean water produces an economic return of $4-$12. The effectiveness of healthcare, education and sanitation in developing countries rely on access to clean water.

The Reveal: Charity: water documents your impact with GPS coordinates and a full ‘dollars to projects’ report. Last year's funds are currently at work in Mozambique, helping reduce the country’s childhood mortality rate, which currently ranks as the 22nd highest in the world, and facilitating the restoration of the country’s water supply after enduring a recent Civil War.
