Last summer, I decided to do a mountain bike race. I had a goal to raise $3000 for the 3000ft I climbed for charity: water.
Turns out, I love mountain bikes, but I’m not to sure about racing them. Those guys just don’t take enough snack breaks in my opinion (I’m not a racer too!!). Although I finished my race, I did not complete my goal of raising $3000 for charity: water (a charity I can stand behind, for their values, business practices, transparency and because 100% of your donation goes to the cause). So, this year I decided to do another triathlon (for some odd reason I love those darn things). And I’m doubling my distance from a sprint, to my first olympic distance tri on Aug 25th. 1500m swim, 26.4 mile bike and a 10K. I’m psyched!

I have $2245 left to raise to reach my goal! Please don’t feel pressured, only if you want to give, give. I simply want to raise awareness of anything. So if you can’t at this time, just take a minute to realize how lucky we are to be able to take shower each day and not have to battle with the struggle of whether to use that water to cook, clean, or drink. Take a moment to be grateful that you can reach for a clean, safe glass of water if you wanted to. And be aware of how much you use. Water is something we can all easily take for granted. It’s a precious resource that I think everyone deserves access to.

Every year, about 1,400 children die from diseases caused by unsafe water and poor sanitation. But it doesn’t have to be that way. There are simple solutions like drilled wells, spring protections and BioSand filters that help provide clean water to communities around the world.
So help me make it a reality for some more of our fellow humans, to allow their decision making to go beyond finding water everyday.

100% of the money will be used to build clean water projects, and when they’re complete, charity: water will send us photos and GPS coordinates so we can see the exact community we helped.
