Many of us have no idea what it's like to be thirsty. We have plenty of water to drink -- even the water in our toilets is clean!

But many people around the world don’t have that luxury. Every day, about 1,400 children die from diseases caused by unsafe water and poor sanitation. But it doesn’t have to be that way. There are simple solutions like drilled wells, spring protections and BioSand filters that help provide clean water to communities around the world.

I started this fundraising campaign to help charity: water build these types of projects around the world, and I'm looking for anyone who can help me. I really want to do things in my life that matter and help people, and I don't feel like I have a chance to do that in my day to day. That's why I'm doing this. I don't have a lot of money to give, but I'd gladly sacrifice my birthday for the sake of giving people access to clean water.

Besides greater chance of survival for more people, here's another reason that I feel clean water is incredibly important: a lot of third world countries are in turmoil. They become war torn, and criminal organizations and gangs take power and radicalize people to join their cause. This happens in a lot of places. I feel like part of the problem is that it's incredibly easy to radicalize people and see this type of system in places where people are in deep need.

If you look at Maslow's heirarchy of needs, self actualization (the need to become the best person you can be) is way at the top. The very bottom and first priority need is physiological needs (food, water, shelter, etc.) If we all make our goal to ensure that all people at least have a chance at some of these most basic needs, it could give people a chance to work their way up the heirarchy of needs and not be as succeptible to the things that plague those countries. And I feel that clean water is a very accomplishable goal to start with.
