If your heart burns for orphans, widows, immigrants, education, youth, women's rights, the elderly, injustice, and the historically disenfranchised, then your heart burns for clean drinking water. At the intersection of all of these issues is one simple truth, "water changes everything".
A mother with the ability to work instead of spending 4 hours fetching water changes a generation; a daughter having clean water to bathe enables her to attend school without embarrassment; a young child with clean water means a disease free environment. Given that 1400 children die a day from preventable water related diseases, that last statement matters.
The water crisis is a solvable issue, if we deem it so. I've seen first hand people — who share the same skin color as my daughter — bathing, drinking, and cooking from a puddle. The poor may be with us always, but I refuse to submit to the idea that a person is relegated to a lot in life that includes unnecessary suffering.
The Lord loves a cheerful giver. So give knowing that hope is a clean cup of water away.
