I'm looking forward to my birthday next month on 11/22! I have a birthday wish which I'm hoping all of you could assist me with. I strongly feel that we in the West are missing the mark when it comes to concern for those who are marginalized, displaced, and lacking the basic necessities of life. I am hoping that you as my friends could help me contribute to alleviating some of the suffering that is currently happening in the world. It's difficult for me to comprehend how we can go on making million-dollar movies while people in Africa don't even have access to clean drinking water. I've been to Ethiopia and witnessed how women walk for hours each morning just to get a jug of water to bring back to their families for the day. For my birthday, I'm hoping that we could raise enough money to build a well for a village in Africa. If all of you who I know would be willing to chip in $5.63, we could do this! I'm not so quixotic to believe that everyone will contribute, so if you feel inspired to donate more for those who don't, that would be incredible! Love you all!

Also, I've decided to go through charity:water because 100% of the funds will go towards building the well since they have separate donors who help to support the expenses of running the nonprofit. You'll also get a tax credit. Charity:water has a nice default description for this fundraising page which reads:

Many of us have no idea what it's like to be thirsty. We have plenty of water to drink -- even the water in our toilets is clean!

But many people around the world don’t have that luxury. Every day, about 1,400 children die from diseases caused by unsafe water and poor sanitation. But it doesn’t have to be that way. There are simple solutions like drilled wells, spring protections and BioSand filters that help provide clean water to communities around the world.

I started this fundraising campaign to help charity: water build these types of projects around the world, and I'm looking for anyone who can help me.
