Why Wubetu Shimelash is fundraising for clean water

You wanna talk about crazy?

663 million people on this planet don’t have access to clean water. That’s 1 in 11 of us!

That means 1 out of 11 people in our world is drinking water that comes from a river, lake or muddy hole in the ground every day. Dirty, contaminated water that has leeches and debris in it. Water that causes disease, keeps kids out of school and takes hours to bring back home. Growing up in farming family in rural part of Ethiopia, I have experienced those challenges and struggles until the age of fourteen. When I was fourteen, a friend whom I see as a father figure today, Blake Mycoskie (Founder and Chief Shoe Giver of TOMS) and his wife Heather and other members of the family provided me a great opportunity to continue my eduction. An education that will allow me to help my family, my society and others around the glob in the future. In 2013, I moved to the U.S with this opportunity where I was able to visit the head quarter of Charity water in New York with Blake. I had a conversation with Scott Harrison, Founder of Charity:water, and his coworkers. With in the conversation we had, I was deeply drawn, inspired, and motivated by Charity :water's mission, vision and action it is doing to solve one of the world's problem. At the middle of our conversion, I decided to do something to help this organization with its mission. I couldn't come up with one but I knew some people do crazy things when they celebrate their 21 th birthday.
What’s NOT crazy is doing something to help. I joined charity: water’s December Campaign this year because I believe that every person on the planet deserves clean water, and I’m looking for anyone who can help me.

100% of the money will be used to build clean water projects for people in need, and when they’re complete, charity: water will send us photos and GPS coordinates so we can see the exact community we helped.

You can give a little or you can give a lot. The craziest thing we can do is nothing.
