Many of us have no idea what it's like to be thirsty. We have plenty of water to drink -- even the water in our toilets is clean!

But many people around the world don’t have that luxury. Every day, about 1,400 children die from diseases caused by unsafe water and poor sanitation. But it doesn’t have to be that way. There are simple solutions like drilled wells, spring protections and BioSand filters that help provide clean water to communities around the world.

In this region where we are living, we have also been experiencing lots of unusual weather patterns, with a generally warming pattern, which many scientists have attributed to climate change. Climate change skeptics can say all they want but the truth is that our weather patterns have changed tremendously from a generation back. Naturally, water scarcity is becoming a real threat to any and everybody. Our primary source of water from Johor reservoir has dropped to almost 27% of it's capacity at the beginning of this year and this cannot be more worrying for a small country like us. We can only thankful that our leaders have thought well ahead to diversify our sources of clean water, even at a 30% cost increase! This meant that Singaporeans are much luckier compared to our peers to not have our daily lives affected, yet!

This was a wakeup call to many. Many of us in this part of the world don’t spend too much time thinking about water because it’s available everywhere we go. When we’re thirsty, we flip a handle or push a button. When we’re dirty, we twist a shower knob. When our cars are dirty, we hose down the dirt with zero hesitation. When we need to cook our rice, when we use the bathroom -- water is just an arm's length away and more often than not, we forget how precious clean water can be.

On 1 May 2017, we celebrate 5 years of good coffees with good company at Nylon. We want to commemorate this special day by doing our little part to raise money for charity: water, and we need your help to help us achieve our goal together! We raised a total of USD$8,679.50 last year and we hope to better this figure.

In return, we will be serving coffees FREE from 9am - 6pm on 1 May 2017. We humbly ask for your generous support to our cause -- any amount (the more the better) you give is gonna be a massive step towards providing clean water to someone who really needs it. This year, we have also roped in our baker friends to pitch in for this cause with some awesome cakes and breads. Remember to look out for our merchandise too. Every profit from these will go towards the cause.
