Many of us have no idea what it's like to be thirsty. We have plenty of water to drink -- even the water in our toilets is clean, much to the thankfulness of our dogs.

But many people around the world don’t have that luxury. Every day, too many children die from diseases caused by unsafe water and poor sanitation. It doesn’t have to be that way. There are simple solutions like drilled wells, spring protections and BioSand filters that help provide clean water to communities around the world.

I have pledged my birthday twice before to help charity: water build these types of projects around the world, and I'm looking for anyone who can help me. In the past we have raised a total of $1,165. If you're wondering if we've helped, the answer is yes. My first campaign brought clean water to Mtambo Community, Malawi and, along with seven other campaigns, have provided clean water to 696 people. My second campaign's project is still under construction.

Also, that 'too many children' I mentioned earlier? The number has dropped from 2,200 children each day to 1,400; still unacceptable, but amazing results in just two years.

This year my campaign is entitled Tides. Many of you know the changes my and my family have gone through this year: many, many life changes, but even so, we are so blessed. Too blessed not to think about our neighbors and not to take action.

Tides change things constantly, yet so much remains the same. The shape of the beach varies, but the sand the smell and the sticky feel of the salt air remain like God's constant presence.
